Surrey suffer collapse in County Championship – day two, text & radio

In case you’ve just joined us and you’re wondering why there’s been no play in the game between Lancashire and Gloucestershire today, the pitch became very wet overnight after a problem with the covers, with rain allowed to seep on to the wicket.

An emotional Christian Brain, the head groundsman at Cheltenham College – where Gloucestershire are playing while the West Indies face New Zealand in a World Cup warm-up match at their usual home of the County Ground in Bristol – has been speaking about the problem.

“I’m very disappointed for myself and my team and I feel so sorry for all the supporters who’ve come here today,” Brain told BBC Radio Gloucestershire. “It’s something I never thought would happen.

“We’ll be around until dark and here again first thing in the morning to get as much light and air on the pitch as possible and fingers crossed the umpires will deem the pitch playable and we’ll get some action tomorrow.

“I don’t know what else we could’ve done, it’s just one of those unfortunate things. It’s very tricky here with the slope.”
