An earthquake with a magnitude 7.0 struck 173km northwest of the city of Ternate, North Maluku, in the Moluccas group of islands in Indonesia late on Sunday (Monday local time), according to the US Geological Survey website.
The quake hit at a depth 10km, it said.
The city of Ternate has a population of around 200,000.
